Frozen shoulder / Adhesive capsulitis

Frozen shoulder embolization.

A newer, minimally invasive option for persistent pain and stiffness from adhesive capsulitis.

What it is

Easing pain so motion can return.

In frozen shoulder, the capsule around the joint becomes inflamed and develops abnormal small blood vessels, causing pain and stiffness that can last months or longer.

Shoulder artery embolization reduces blood flow to that inflamed tissue through a thin catheter. By easing the pain, it can help physical therapy do its job and restore motion.

Who it can help

Who it can help.

Shoulder pain and stiffness from adhesive capsulitis that is not improving
Pain that limits reaching, dressing or sleep
People who want to make more progress in physical therapy
What to expect

From consultation to recovery.

01 / Consultation

We review your symptoms, past treatments and imaging, and talk through whether embolization is right for you.

02 / Procedure day

Through a pinhole in the skin, a thin catheter is guided under live X-ray to the arteries feeding the inflamed tissue. Tiny particles slow that blood flow. You are awake but comfortable with light sedation.

03 / Recovery

You go home within a few hours, and we follow up to track your progress.

Results

What patients can expect.

Many patients notice less pain in the weeks after treatment, which can make it easier to regain range of motion with continued therapy.
